This is a great idea. I wish more university had event like this.

University of Oregon Disability Studies holds second annual film festival

EUGENE—(April 26, 2006)—Issues of life and living will be examined at the second annual University of Oregon Disability Studies Film Festival, “Push Your Limit” being held April 27 through April 29.

Films will be shown on April 27 and 28 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., 100 Willamette Hall. On April 29, films will be shown from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Downtown Initiative for the Visual Arts, 110 W. Broadway. Admission is free and open to the public.

Thursday, April 27

  • Theme: “Living the Life You Have a Right To.” The films “Little Man” by Nicole Conn and “39 pounds of love” by Dani Menken will be shown. Raphael Raphael and Carter Soles, university students in English and film studies, will lead a discussion after screening “Decoding the Extraordinary Body in Cinema.”

Friday, April 28

  • Theme: “Arts & Culture Leap Out of the Box.” The films “Touch the Sound” by Thomas Riedelsheimer and “JazzArtSigns” by Lisa Thorson will be shown.

Saturday, April 29

  • Theme: “No More Pity – Go Where the Obstacles Are.” The films “Murderball” by Jeffrey Mandel and Dana Adam Shapiro, “The Kids are All Right” by Kerry Richardson, and “Speedracer: Welcome to the World of Vic Chestnutt” by Peter Sillen will be shown.

The festival is being co-sponsored by the University Center for Excellent in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD), the University of Oregon Disability Studies, the College of Education, University of Oregon Special Education program, the University of Oregon ASUO-Disability Services Project Fund, The University of Oregon School of Architecture and Allied Arts (AAA), the Downtown Initiative for the Visual Arts (DIVA), The University of Oregon Jewish Student Union, Oregon Hillel: The Foundation for Jewish Life, the City of Eugene Human Rights Commission, the University of Oregon Office of Student Life, LGBTQA Education and Support Service, EMU Cultural Forum, and the Lane Independent Living Alliance (LILA).
